Chapter Thirty-eight

Lano had called a meeting at the club on 7 Mile and Syracuse. He wanted to inform the members of their street family of Saw’s departure from the game and that from then on he would be the head of the family. Everyone was in attendance except Hood. Lano had purposely not called to inform Hood of the meeting, because after witnessing Hood with Karmesha, Lano had seen another side of Hood that couldn’t be trusted. Lano feared that Hood would stand in his way, and so he had another plan altogether for Hood.

As the members stood inside the club listening to Lano declare himself their leader, it was evident from the side conversations taking place that not everybody was feeling Lano. He was a good hustler and all, but he didn’t have their respect. Lano had never put in any work in their eyes, and they were all official goons, so it just made it hard for them to follow his lead.

Thugga and Maine definitely weren’t down with taking orders from a soft nigga like Lano. They were salty that Saw hadn’t told them himself about his move and even more so to stick them with Lano’s creep ass. Thugga and Maine walked out of the club as Lano tried detailing the way he wanted things handled now that he was in power.

“You hear that bitch-ass nigga in there?” asked Maine as he opened the passenger door of the Challenger.

“Nigga done lost his mind if he think I’m workin’ for ’im,” said Maine.

Thugga had slipped behind the wheel and sparked the half-smoked wrap from the ashtray. He said nothing as Maine vented about Lano being in charge and their position in the family. As far as Thugga was concerned, there was no family except the nigga at his right. The rest of them were out for self. That family shit sounded good, but talk was all that it was. The true definition behind family was to want for your family what you wanted for yourself. And Thugga knew better than to believe a creep-smiling nigga like Lano wanted them to prosper.

“What we gon’ do?” asked Maine.

“What we should’ve done a long time ago,” answered Thugga as he put the car into drive and skirted away from the curb.

Back inside the club, the meeting was over, and all the members were enjoying the free liquor flowing from the bar. Saw had never let everyone just hang out inside the club, because it was his sanctuary and throne, so to speak. But Lano was set on doing everything differently from what the family was used to. He had plans of expanding their operations into gambling and escort services, which was just a legal way of selling pussy. And Lano also wanted the family to tap into the fraud game surrounding them.

Lano had noticed Thugga and Maine’s sudden departure, and he made a mental note to have a personal sit-down with them, because he recognized them as the top enforcers of the family and needed them to be happy.
